two ways. First is easiest - add 5 to both sides to get x^2 = 5 then take square roots to get x =+squreroot 5 and x =-squareroot5.

Or use quadratic formula with a -1, b=0 and c = -5

Great question again Liyah! It's because in this case b is not 5 as you say. b = -5. Therefore - - 5 (double negative as it were) is actually just 5.

I assumed that the - that came before the 4 in the formula will then make it a negative 4? Therefore it will be -4 x a x c?

in question 1, why is -5 in brackets (to square) ?

For Qs 13(a) why does b=-7 and not just 7?

This is so helpful but I got a question ( solve the equation x square -5 =0. give your answer to 1decimal place) I don't know how to do this one. Please help me. I wrote x square because no option to write 2 above x. SOrry) Please help I am waiting for your reply. Thank you.
