What Science ACTUALLY Says About Added Sugars

Sugar poses a silent threat to health regardless of one's weight. Excessive intake can lead to insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes, and suppress the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to infections. High sugar diets also promote atherosclerosis, potentially resulting in heart disease, and chronic inflammation, which is linked to increased pain and joint degeneration. Notably, these detrimental effects are primarily associated with added and simple sugars, not complex carbohydrates, highlighting the importance of discerning sugar types in our diets for maintaining health.

► Things my patients have found helpful:
Please note that I get a lot of requests and questions about what equipment is ‘best’ for treating a variety of conditions. The following is not meant to be an exhaustive or definitive list. Please use it as a starting point. If you have questions, please discuss with your healthcare provider. With that said, I have tried a number of the products below, but not all. I have included some based on positive feedback from many of my patients. As an Amazon Associate, Dr Peng earns from qualifying purchases. Thank you! Great advice. I'm 5'7" and up until a year ago, weighed in at around 150 Lbs.. I suffered with joint pain (gout & osteoarthritis) for at least 10 years. Last fall I started cutting back on alcohol, baked good, processed food, etc..Today I weight less 140 Lbs, even though I still have some joint pain, I no longer suffer from gout attacks that keep me up all night. With your advice I'm going to double my efforts at keeping all "junk/processed" food out of my diet. Thank you!

100% truth.
I have a lot of osteoarthritis, some end stage and some lesser. I usually don't eat sugar, processed foods, or vegetable oils. However a little over a week ago, I ate several cupcakes. Afterward I had the worst inflammation flare-up in years. Even my joints that have lower stages of arthritis, they were throbbing.
I will never make that mistake again. Sugar is inflammatory! So are processed foods and vegetable oils.
I do eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and protein.

Be careful of wholegrain from supermarkets. Even wholegrain are not the whole grain. Look for intact grains such as groats. Or skip the grains and substitute for sweet potato, root vegetables and beans

This is so true. A friend with skin problems took sugar out of her diet and cleared up her skin.

Grains and corn are equally as inflammatory and terrible for joint pains. The only grain that doesn’t cause inflammation is white rice, but you’ll want to fill up on veggies first so that the digestion of the rice slows down.
