Of course, the British National Anthem is the ONLY anthem in the world that isn't about the country and its people but about praising the Monarch, and therefore the anthem is an insult to those millions and millions of British people who do not wish to have a Monarch.

The national anthem is not representative of Britain. It does not represent the struggles that ordinary Britons have long gone through or are experiencing now, nor does it truly characterise British culture and history (which is not limited to a single outdated institution). Instead, it honours an exploitative family that lives immeasurable luxury while their 'subjects' suffer. It legitimises a system of hereditary monarchy that flies in the face of reason, equality and meritocracy.

Wow, so some fans booed the national anthem. So what? They should be allowed to do so. I doubt Prince William will care that much anyway; he'll return to his palace and millions will still kid themselves into thinking his family are essential

Liverpool is the most leftwing city in England, people are of Irish extraction, it is probably the most republican city in the UK, and people were drinking from the early morning, what do you expect?

The anthem is an ode to Britain's upper classes, who have oppressed the poor for centuries. The British Empire committed atrocities and invented concentration camps (it's true, look it up) for the gain of the British upper classes. Germany is one of the few countries who do a good job educating their people on the real impact of their country's imperialism on ordinary people.

Liverpool is one of those cities of working class people who took the brunt of this oppression at home. It is also the home of many descendants of Irish immigrants who fled the Great Famine, which came about because the British ruling classes took their land and exported food back to Britain for profit, while making the Irish so poor they could only afford to rely on the potato. Not to mention Hillsborough.

If you identify as British, you should ask yourself which version of Britain you identify with: the oppressive upper class Britain that sweeps atrocities under the rug or the hard-working working class Britain that stands up for justice?

When you have a certain Tory MP saying the "poor can't cook" and that there's no need for food banks, you can't help but feel that any type of political sentiment won't go down well with anyone from Liverpool. LFC do so much for food banks across the city and they do it well.
