How to check and add oil to Yamaha R6

This video shows how to check the oil level and add oil to a 2008 Yamaha R6.

To get the most accurate reading the bike should be on a rear stand or have someone hold the bike upright.

(some r6 models have an oil window to check the oil level & may be on the opposite side but adding oil will be the same as shown here)

The bike should be level on front and rear stands. If you check it with only the rear stand it will be a false low. If the bike is on the kick stand it will also cause a false low

You forgot to:
1) level the bike before checking. A tilted bike will give a bad reading
2) do not screw the stick in to check it
3) don’t check it cold

Also remeber not to screw the dip stick in, to check the oil level, just a quick dip, it's perfect if the oil level is in the hash marks

Did you have your bike on a stand or why are you only using the kickstands bike?

I just added oil to my 2016 yamaha r6 and now white smoke is coming out...it wasn't doing that before...no other problems from before when mechanic checked it out. Any ideas?
