So can you explain how the sloppy chain prevents the cam from driving the pump? If the chain is spinning the cam should spin, correct?

If the rest of the car is in good shape, that 3.6 Vr6 is worth repairing. Just needs new guides and a couple other parts. However it is $2000 later in labor especially after all tearing half the motor apart.

VW has been off my list for a few years now. The car manufacturers have discovered new ways to make more money from you with self destructive designs. I recently repaired my "worn out clutch" that was going to cost $2000. Turned out to be a torn intake boot $20 dollars.

I have a similar code I've been trying to lock down lately too on my mk7.5 R. I was just about to replace the in-tank pump. Guess I know where to start checking if that doesn't fix it
