What If Spider-Man Was On Captain America's Civil War Team?

Spider-Man and Iron Man have one of the best relationships in the entire MCU. Throughout just a few movies, they established a great mentor/mentee type of relationship that drove a lot of their stories in Phase 3. In fact, Spider-Man’s relationship with Iron Man has been one of the main focuses of Peter’s character arc, with some people expressing their concerns that Peter was just an Iron Man Jr. So what if things were different? What if during Civil War, circumstances were different and Captain America became Peter’s mentor instead? How would that ripple effect change the entire MCU as we know it? Well that’s what I’m going to talk about today.

Would Peter become a fugitive just like Captain America? How would that affect Homecoming? Would Peter’s villains be different so that Vulture wouldn’t necessarily be an Iron Man villain? What does that mean for Infinity War and Endgame? Would Peter still be on that spaceship to Titan or would he have instead stayed on Earth to fight with Captain America? Post-Endgame, what would Peter’s arc be if he doesn’t go through his “next Iron Man” phase in Far From Home? There’s so many exciting possibilities that I can’t wait to talk about today!

So join me as I discuss what would happen if Spider-Man was on Captain America’s team in Civil War. After you’re done, be sure to hit that big like and subscribe button and be sure to leave a comment letting me know your thoughts! Thanks for watching CBR! Let’s get started.

Do you think we'll see Spider-Man team up with Captain America in the upcoming Avengers movies?

I mean, philosophy wise, he was. Peter’s whole given reason for being a hero is exactly the argument Cap was making;

“When you can do the things that I can, but you don’t, and then the bad things happen…they happen because of you.” Peter only aligned with Tony because he was star struck with no understanding of what was even going on.

Plus, ya know, *_Cap_* is Peter’s idol in the canon comics.

I kinda hoped that peter in Homecoming would still be under Iron-man but will also secretly train under Captain America to become both a better fighter with morals and a tech genius. And when he fights in the final battle, with steve and tony both by his side, (maybe against a whole army of Ex Stark Employee's and also impacted Team Cap in a way), he could do better then both of them. He could truly become Spider-man in this scene. By combining both Tech and Training to defeat these villians.

Can you do a video about what would have happened if Doctor Strange first warned Spider-Man about the memory spell before doing the spell during Spider-Man No Way Home? What would have happened if the first spell Doctor Strange performed turned out to be as how it was supposed to go?

What do you think Spider-Man would be like having the Falcon and Winter Soldier as his new buddies if Steve Rodgers Captain America was his mentor? Apart from Captain America Civil War, Do you think we should have seen him bond more with them and the other MCU heroes? I mean come on when Spider-Man was a protege for Iron Man, He never bonded with War Machine and Pepper Potts AKA Rescue

Tony defying the Accords in order to secure the Accords by recruiting a 15 year old who he keeps secret is one of the things (two of the things when considering the underage thing and lying to the kid's guardian) that makes me lean towards Steve in the movie. He's acting on guilt and anger and emotion the whole show. It also goes to his "has to be right and the biggest person in the room" character flaw that his whole MCU journey is about. It fits. Not that I agree with it, but it fits. That's why I'm always surprised how many people who watch this movie side with Tony.

In fact, both Peter and Bucky exemplify the argument against Tony and the Accords. Peter says he does what he does because if you can do something and you don't, you're basically responsible for it. Great power, great responsibility. How can the Avengers take responsibility when they aren't allowed to act for themselves.

Of course, the Cap side of the argument is not perfect, but still, Peter makes a good point in the first meeting with Tony, but Tony ignores it and persuades the underaged kid to fight and hides it from his aunt.

Bucky was an embodiment of the Avengers under the Accords. A powerful weapon to be wielded by a governmental body of leaders with their own agendas. Politicians, too. They're the worst. Anyone who thinks people like Trump or Biden (or any other shady leader as it was the UN) should have had complete power to send the avengers to do what they want or bar them from helping when they don't want it. In the Avengers first movie, if they had done as they were told, they'd have abandoned Manhattan to be nuked.

Bucky was a tool. He couldn't choose for himself. He ended up commiting horrible acts for decades at the command of his overseers. So, when Tony is furious about the death his parents (an understandable emotion) and then points that emotion at Bucky (something he does the whole movie, feels a bad emotion, points it at someone else) Steve tries to tell him Bucky had no choice in doing it. Tony says he doesn't care. That's another nail against the Tony/Accords arguments. The heroes should be indiovidually accountable for their own actions.

I truly couldn’t imagine an MCU without the dynamic between Spider-Man and Iron Man.

If he was in his team he's a powerful team

I honestly thought that they were going to have Spider-Man get disillusioned with Iron Man's viewpoint halfway through the battle and switch sides to join Cap. As much as I love Peter and Tony's relationship in the movies, I feel it would've felt more 'Spider-Man-ey'. Yes, I know that's the opposite of what happened in the comics, but I wasn't much of a fan of that particular twist, personally.

Haven't wathed the Video yet... But in terms of the battle itself: The only thing that would change is Vision using 5.5% of his power instead of 5%

I agree with what you're saying about Homecoming connecting to the civil war. For me personally the sokovia accords (and that movie) doesn't really play a major effect on the MCU, all does is introduced super heroes (like Scott, peter and T'challa) to the avengers which was done or could have been done in solo movies. I mean we don't see how accords affect anyone in major ways other than Ant-man, no one else.

What would happen if there was a Spider-Man suit based on Captain America? Do you think we will see Spider-Man wearing that suit in the MCU and that too in the Marvel What_If TV show on Disney Plus?

Honestly would’ve preferred getting this, a little more comic accuracy, some things from the MCU are still very similar but some different things could’ve been better (like Mysterio’s motivation in my opinion), and more interactions between Cap and Spidey which I think is one of the MCU’s biggest missed opportunities for the two

Most importantly, he wouldn't have stolen cap's shield

If Spider-Man was working with Steve Rodgers Captain America, Would he have been easily killed by Thanos and his army during Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame since he never got the Iron Spider suit, Would he have easily defeated Mysterio since Peter would have never gotten the E.D.I.T.H glasses along with Mysterio having no means of framing him and revealing his identity without proof resulting in the events of Spider-Man No Way Home never happening?
