First Reformed - Sympathy in Cinematography

First Reformed is one of my favourite films of all time, so it was only a matter of time before I had to do a video surrounding the unique cinematography.

In today’s video, I look at how Alexander Dynan created sympathy in the cinematography of First Reformed, how he decided on the look for the film, as well as the equipment he used on set.

Apologies that this video is a couple of days late, my throat only started feeling better on Wednesday, and I didn’t want to rush through.

As always, if you have a recommendation for a film or TV show that you would like to see me break down, leave a comment down below.

Timeline:
00:00 Introduction
01:04 Equipment
02:07 Creating Sympathy In Cinematography
04:20 The Look
06:11 Conclusion

I'd like to know why you only have less than a 1000 subscribers? Your videos are simply outstanding and so well structured. I've only just discovered them, and I will assure you that I will be watching each and everyone of them over the next couple of weeks. I really hope more people get onboard your channel - keep up the great work !

Given the effectiveness of the 4:3 aspect ratio, it's surprising that more films aren't shot this way. I'm developing a short sci-fi film, and after watching this I am considering on shooting it in this 4:3 aspect ratio since the character's isolation is an important aspect of my story. And of course, I have "First Reformed" queued up to watch. Thanks for another excellent video on cinematography.
