Trigonometry on Khan Academy: Big, fancy word, right? Don't be fooled. Looking at the prefix, tri-, you could probably assume that trigonometry ("trig" as it's sometimes called) has something to do with triangles. You would be right! Trig is the study of the properties of triangles. Why is it important? It's used in measuring precise distances, particularly in industries like satellite systems and sciences like astronomy. It's not only space, however. Trig is present in architecture and music, too. Now you may wonder...how is knowing the measurement and properties of triangles relevant to music?? THAT is a great question. Maybe you'll learn the answer from us in these tutorials!

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

When I type 5 × tan(65) into my calculator, I get -7.35.

Edit:
My calculator was set to radians. If you're having the same issue, you may be able to change the calculator mode to degrees by pressing the "mode" button and selecting "degree." Alternatively, you can multiply the angle by 0.0174532924 (or π/180) to convert it to radians.

radians = degrees × π ÷ 180
degrees = radians × 180 ÷ π

I love you Sal Khan! So much I learned in just 3 minutes compared to learning NOTHING in 3 classes of Algebra and even reading the book! Thank you so much!

Fantastic!!! I am getting into game development and it has been so hard to find what i needed. This video was perfect. Showed me how to rearrange an equation in order to solve for my needed value. Thank you so much!!!!

Oh you are a saviour! I honestly didn't get a word on what my teacher said about trigonometry. It's all so clear now.

This helps so much, and not just in math. When you get to 2d kinematics in physics, this becomes your best friend

With COVID-19 prompting school closures, Khan Academy is the only place i can learn math now.
Thank you so much

Glad to know I'm not the only one who tries to use the side with the exact & simple length that was given as opposed to my convoluted and shortened ones

Hi... My question is :
Is it possible to find height and length (or one of these) of a right angle triangle if we are given only an angle (say 35 degrees) of the triangle? (Without googling on internet!!)
E.g I know the angle of a satellite (say) AsiaSat 105.5deg E is 34deg (angle of elv) and want to find the height and distance of this satellite from the Earth?
Thank's
