How To Copy Without Stealing (5 Ingredients Technique)

You've found something you love. It's natural to want to understand what makes it work, what makes it so good, so that you can improve your own work. Just like a succulent dish, there's a recipe to every great piece of art. You can find it when you take the work, and break it down into smaller pieces. In this video, Chris shows you how to find the five major ingredients in a piece of art, so you can decode the power of anything. This is crucial. It's similar to how reading helps with your writing, reading and vocabulary. When breaking down art looking, breaking down and getting to the core of what you find visually interesting is as just as important as the art itself. Great video guys!

Excellent insights. As you mentioned in the video (paraphrasing here) you cannot replicate what you don't understand. Analysis (and then replication) is an incredibly under-rated method of becoming a great designer. This is common in visual arts and in music, but for some reason, it just isn't talked about much in design. Thank you for making the video!
