Failure to secure a deal means a no deal brexit, not an extension.

"You always have to budget for a complete failure of common sense."
Indeed, Boris. And especially when you are dealing with the British.

"you have to budget for complete failure of common sense"
just look around the political leaders of the world... including the person being interviewed by BBC morning in that clip.

From outside of the UK it seems like you've been talking about it for four years without doing a single thing, and now you realise that you're supposed to do your homework for tomorrow

"a complete fairlure of common sense." Who knew Boris was this self-aware?

Here's how the negotiations on fishing go.
The EU: we propose the status quo
The UK: We want larger quotas
The EU: You can't have them.
The UK: Then we'll default to international maratime law
The EU: OK so will we and if you don't abide by EU regulations on conservation British fish can't be sold into the EU.
The UK: Well we won't buy your fish either
The EU: You're an island you produce more fish than you eat
The UK: Well we'll just sell it to someone else
The EU: Where the f*ck are you going to ship your fish to that's outside the EU - look at a map!

Remember when 2 years ago, surprisingly, the British government discovered that all 27 EU countries have joined together to appoint only one negotiator? On that occasion Theresa May said: they are siding against the UK. A couple of days later one of the referendum unicorns fell, which imagined a fantastic deal with Germany; if not to find that no country within the EU is authorized to enter into unilateral negotiations.
Here I ask you: why do the British continue to fire their arrows at Brussels when the 27 countries are in command?
Are the British aware that the smallest nation in the Union (Malta) could undermine the future agreements with a veto vote?
Are the British aware that within the EU besides them there are 3 of the 10 countries with the highest GDP in the world ( Germany, France and Italy); a nuclear power (France) which is also a member of the security of the United Nations?
London big mistake is to focus only on the Brussels bureaucrats, regardless of who is behind them.

Although there wil be no deporation witin a few months all European citizens will have to report to a nominated Police Station at least once a month and also declare their movements within the UK. We will be returning to the old Alien Act. So if you are an EU subject ensure you know where your Police Station. It would also be advisable to contact the Home office if you are not sure of the procedure. At present the government are keeping it under wraps for political reasons! They know full well that Brussels won't like this discrimination although Brexiters are very keen on it

there is no good reason for trade negotiations to take years, nothing but intentional delay.

The only trade deal that can be done this year is an indentical copy of one of the EU's current deals. Norway, Switzerland, or Canada. There is no way any deal involving quotas or tariffs will happrn in this time

He didn't budget for parliament to not follow his wishes against their own wills back then. It was the status quo that the government got shut down.
I'm not sure I can trust that he doesn't account for the EU looking after their own interest. Maybe his idea of what will happen is that the EU will just agree with whatever he puts forward. And in the end I'm not even convinced he's not for a no deal. He's done a lot of work to keep that on the table.

Sure, there are nine question marks on the Government slide, but there are also eight yeses and only three noes. Isn't it more concerning that only three out of the twenty issues aren't potential fetters to a trade agreement?

The various draft agreements between the negotiators must be presented to the respective 27 countries which through their parliaments must be discussed approved or rejected as national and in some cases even regional parliaments can apply the right of veto. In the event of a veto, the draft is sent back to the negotiators for re-discussion.
Erroneously as the British have been led to believe, nothing moves in Brussels without the approval of the 27 member states.
I remind everyone that the Council of European Heads of State meets a few times a year including also the extraordinary ones that the United Kingdom will manage to obtain.
Welcome to the most democratic and slowest economic bloc in the world.

It’s simple: The UK just needs to tell the EU how the regulatory structure will work in, for example, the fishing areas, then get on with implementing it. In 2021, start enforcing it, agreement or no.
