Step 1 pick a race that the swim is in a river with a strong current and down stream swim...

I'm so happy that I just got under the two hour mark, and now I am watching a video of how to do that swim in under one hour. Guess I just love day dreaming 🤣

For most people shooting for under an hour is a bad idea. Why not swim 1:05 or even 1:10 and save some matches. Yes you “can” swim under an hour but you’re going to add potentially 30+ minutes on the run when all those matches you’ve burnt are coming back to bite you. Unless you’re trying to hit your Ironman under 10 or even faster then what’s the point? No one wins a medal for being in the top handful out of the water.

Swimmer tip if you want guaranteed results:
Have your rest be included in your timed interval. For example, if you’re trying to make 100s on the 1:30, you need to be going again at the 1:30.

I was hoping to get a good 6 months of swim training with the aim of getting inside 90 minutes for the swim at IMUK Bolton in July. With the COVID restrictions, I'll count myself lucky to exit T1 in 2 hours.

Literally managed about 8 swims in the passed 12 months due to closures 🤷‍♂️

Of all the goals mentioned, the 60 minute 3.8k swim is so far out of reach that if I made it my goal I would just get depressed. Can we start with a goal of 90 minutes please?

Even if I could follow that plan (pools are still closed on my area). I doubt I could get there when my 100 yards are at about 2:00 minutes or a bit under in a good day 😆

Love the topic! Luckily, here in Australia (Queensland) pools are open, summer just ended, but not many triathlons. I can do a 1:45 100m but holding this for almost 4km is not something I can do yet. That's my goal

I swam the full distance today and it wasn't easy in itself, it took me 1h30. I very much underestimated how hard the swim would be.

Or, sign up for IM Cozumel 🤷‍♂️. I did it in 55 min and I’m more of a 1:10 guy. Bit of a current in gorgeous, clear, tropical water. I highly recommend the swim there.

Public pools post Covid only have 40 minute time slots which is a big issue

I also want a pool cuz here pools have been closed since nearly a year by now. 😥

I own a sub 1hr IM swim. The thing l have noticed is that Triathletes do very little technique work. Drills should be part of the warm up. Everytime. A good way to improve your swimming is to do some squad work l am back doing IM after a 26yr break and am looking to go sub 1.05 next time out.

No pool here in Germany everything closed since Oktober 2020! No way to open the next month.. I don’t know if I could even swim? Maybe a set for dryland Training that aims the water Intervalls?
