Jean-Pierre Melville’s film is a harrowing look at life in the French resistance during World War II. Starring legendary actors Lino Ventura, Simone Signoret, and Jean-Pierre Cassel, the film was a political football during its initial release in 1969, but has been reappraised and, more importantly, restored for safekeeping.

Trailers from Hell showcases classic previews of past movie attractions punctuated with humorous commentary by iconic filmmakers.

But wait! There's more! TFH has a podcast!

Saw this recently for the first time, and what a masterpiece it is!

While I fell in love with the bittersweet "Bob le flambeur", was entranced by the subliminally tense "Leon Morin, pretre" and adored the effortlessly cool "Le Samourai", even a body of work as stellar as Melville's previous films is not enough to prepare you for the sheer, uncompromising intensity of "Army of Shadows".

Unlike any of his other films.

His masterpiece, I believe.

It would be better not to watch this before viewing the film. Actually, it would be better to not watch this at all. Melville never made a "pulpy" movie, and Army of Shadows is very similar to his other great (later) films like Red Circle and Le Deuxieme Souffle.

Man, uploading 20 trailers in a row is equivalent to shitposting.

Secondly, from what I get from these trailers, 60s must've been really boring in terms of cinema. It's a bygone era now, and if you still wanna concentrate on that era, there are much more noteworthy and better movies from the 60s in the Japanese or European cinema.

And Britain is not Europe.
