Keep in mind again, this is all my opinion and these may not be your favorite weapons. But I wanted to hopefully help some people get another viable option to the breaker as it seems to be the all rounded weapon in the game at the moment!

A hidden feature of the scorcher I’ve noticed. The blast radius of the bullet expands based on how far the bullet travels. And at long range it gets absolutely MASSIVE

If they add 5-10 more rounds to the mag on the scorcher it would probably be the best gun in the game especially for automatons

As far as I'm aware, the devs mentioned that the explosive characteristic of weapons increases the weak spot damage from 1.1x to 2x, that's likely why the scorcher is feeling so strong in the damage comparison. Scorcher also should be able to blow up a Bile Titan's acid sacks on its belly, technically speaking this will EVENTUALLY make the Titan bleed out, although it takes a long while for that to happen.

Seems obvious to me the Breaker is best for bugs and the Scorcher for Automatons. Scorcher has an electrical explosive effect that can take down walkers with a direct shot to the front armour (it kills the robot driving it). Same as when you shoot the shield of a devestator.

Scorcher’s explosion can also kill the shield devastator with just a couple of shots even when shooting on their shield.

Scorcher due to its explosive trait, can blow up the robot tower cannon and tanks if you can mag dump at its vent. It might read the bullets bounce off but in fact the damage has punch in.

10:30, the secret with bile spewers is to shoot the head. It only takes 3-4 shots with a breaker to kill a bile spewer/nursing spewer. If you aim for anything else but the head, you are essentially wasting ammo.

The breaker is why many people find bots hard, it's good at kill bots up close, but it forces you to use a suboptimal playstyle for fighting bots, forcing you to get up close.

Partial mag reloading speed bonus only works on ballistic/explosive weapons that have to chamber a round. This is because the reload process/animation is actually pretty accurate to real world weapons. When you load a completely empty real gun with a magazine, you must first release or pull the slide or charging handle back and chamber a round. When you have a partially empty magazine you already have a round in the chamber with the charging handle or slide forward so if you switch magazines for a fresh one you don't have to do anything else to fire again.

HD2's reload system is complex enough that it actually models that entire process. This is also why when you reload off a partial mag you wind up with a number like 46/45. The new magazine has 45 rounds in it plus you have one in the chamber. The animation is detailed enough that there are 3 phases to it: a magazine drop, magazine insert, and charging handle pull. If you are interrupted in the first or second phase then hit reload again, the animation picks up where it left off. i.e. if you had emptied the gun, dropped the mag, inserted the new mag, but then had to dodge, the animation will pick up with racking the slide or charging handle to finish loading the weapon. If you're reloading off a partial mag the charging handle animation is omitted making it faster.

The energy weapons lack both a charging handle pull and don't seem to have the concept of chambering a round, so they don't get any benefit from a partial mag in either speed or retaining a round from the previous magazine. Of course this also seems to mean they almost always have a faster reload cycle than ballistics and the plasma in particular will benefit from burning the magazine all the way down before swapping so you don't waste any ammo.

I was kinda shocked when I realized they'd put that level of detail in to the weapon handling of a game with such a silly tone.

The difference in partial magazine reload is due to the breaker being chamber loaded rounds. If you don’t empty the clip, you still have one round in the chamber and so don’t have to pull the pin on the muzzle. If I’m not mistaken, this also means after a partial reload you actually have 17 rounds loaded.

I think we won't see any primary tweeks until weapon mods come out. CEO mentioned suppressors and sub sonic rounds in a tweet recently. really hyped for it!

Another contender honestly is Slugger. It has a knockback effect that causes damage even through armor it can't penetrate, so for example hulks or scout striders from the front. The scope in first-person is zooming in quite a bit, and you can use it as a mini anti-material rifle.
