Make sure you have all your paperwork! If not, that is a red flag to dot officers at weigh staions

As a new driver.
I technically broke some laws in several states.
I assumed.
( underline, assumed. )
My company knew the laws and wouldn't send me out.
Without full compliance.
I was wrong.
Fortunately, I did not experience a bad outcome.
I don't blame the driver.
However.
A heads up.
As a driver.
It's up to you to know and follow the rules.
Yes. You need a job.
But, don't allow a sketchy company to ruin your C.D.L.
Because once you put the truck in gear and enter a public road.
It's all on you.
They won't ticket your dispatcher.

His 1st mistake was pulling into a port of entry like that & acting nervously with no bill of lading; THEY DON'T PLAY WITH YOU!! I went thru one on I-40 Westbound in northern arizona years ago & the d.o.t. officer sitting in the window of the building told me this: "let me see your registration, insurance & ifta card." Then she changed her mind & said: "as a matter of fact, just give me the entire permit book instead!!" I said here you go. She looked at every permit in my permit book & then gave it back to me & said: "you're good driver & continued safe travels!!" I said thank you officer & continued rolling. If i would've said no about giving her that permit book, she would've hemmed me up!!

During a Level 1 inspection, the CHP looking at my BOL decided to inspect the cargo as well. He proceeded to cut the seal and verify the cargo matched the BOL, after he was done, he stamped the BOL, signed with his signature and badge number, and wrote the number of the seal that he placed on the trailer doors. The stamp stated the seal was cut by a DOT-certified police officer in the performance of an inspection. In total, I have had this done 3 times in 3 different states. I am in effect retired now.

at this point it doesn't matter if he knew or not. No BOL made him responsible and guilty the second he drove off the property of wherever he was loaded at.

Many many times of picked up containers from the rail yard and didn’t have BOL because BOL is located inside sealed container, the only thing they give us is a J-1 with the out gate information in regards to weight, container number, chassis number and time of out gate, no freight info though.

Not all bill of ladings tell you what you are carrying. This is particularly true of high value loads. On high value loads you are not to tell anyone what you are carrying. Often they will not tell you the driver what you are carrying. In the cases where I am carrying high value loads they tell me the load has a value in excess of 1 million dollars but the BOL is in code so I do not know what the load is and my dispatcher does not know what the load is.
