Thank you Sir Francis for all the work you are doing in educating our communities on real time family issues.Thank you and God bless you.

Thank you Francis for touching on this sensitive topic as some parents especially in our African community think once a child is fairly independent to care for themselves then their job is done which is certainly not the case bcos it's a difference challenge when they reach adolescent and parents need to have eyes at the back of their head. I applaud the father who did everything a father could do to support the boy.

A young quiet sensible boy was shot while he was sleeping, his elder brother was dealing with drugs without the family knowing, he was owing the dealers, when the killers came to the house, his brother knew so he didn’t come home and his innocent brother was killed, the parents didn’t hear any noise at all. It happened in London years ago. God help us with our kids. 😭

I pray he changes in prison and comes out as a better person and turns his life around, good he didn’t lose his life. He’s still young to make a turn around for a better future. There’s still more hope. Young and naive. This country is not good for some kids. I am a Ghanaian and I have experienced how kids can change when they are here but not to this stage. I pray he becomes a better person.

Thanks for sharing Francis, this is so sad for the entire family. The mother believed her son in everything. Parenting requires tough love. If a parent is unable to exercise tough love then he or she loses that child. I hope they'll learn their lesson including the boy. 😢

WHEN MOM AND DAD ARE NOT WORKING AS A TEAM/ PARTNERSHIP THAT IS WHAT YOU GET.

Thanks for sharing this with us @Francis and I want to advise that both parents should absolutely be responsible for their children.

Your story is insightful and informative. I think the mom bears the greatest responsibility for this boy’s predicament. Is he going to be tried as an adult or a child? The problem with children coming abroad some of them are worse off than the children born abroad. I know many Africans now adults whom I interact with everyday who have been caught up with the USA judicial system, spent time in jail and are now homeless. I encounter them everyday at the library. I talk to them and they tell me their ordeal, how they refused to listen to their parents, refused to attend school, ended taking drugs. They are in their 20s, and 30s. We should not get tired advising these teenagers. That age is the period of storm and stress. They want to assume adulthood and be independent. Sad!

The thing with UK parents we have to over work to pay our bills and then we blame our selves

Sir, you are doing a good job. I'm a mother, and I will categorically tell you that the mother is responsible for everything. I hope she will learn. God bless you sir.

He is involved in County Lines, which is sad😮 its a shame as they always target vulnerable children but as a Nurse I don't understand why the mother agreed that a Teenage boy come and live with him knowing her shift pattern and emotional availability for the boy!

The local authorities really did a lot I must say considering all the cuts. Always be rational with decisions relating to your kids. Leave emotions out of any major decision.

So sad like you state a lot of young kids are involved in county lines activity, it’s the get rich quick factor influenced by the social media culture. No one is to blame, father or mother . The best they can do is to unite and support their child, make him feel wanted. I have seen a lot of kids turn their lives around👍 well done for highlighting this problem which is becoming prevalent in our community

I applaud the father because he tried to save his son. The mother allowed her emotions to cloud her reasoning and willingly let their son fall through the cracks. She is also a victim but she caused her own victimization by being stupid. I’d like to know whether the marriage survived or not which is highly unlikely.

It is most unfortunate.
Rehabilitation and close monitoring will save the boy and the society at large.
You are doing a humanitarian job.
Kudos.
