I thought my cheap Decathlon strap was not working anymore. I didn’t know the water thing with the sensors. I just swiped the sensors with a damp washcloth and now it works! Thank you!

Wow. Perhaps the best ever Youtube "how to" anything I've ever watched. Covers what you want to do, how you might want to do it, AND most importantly a complete explanation of they why, in this case the difference between the underlying tech on HRS vs HR sports watch depends on physiology, which is kinda the point. HRS monitor on phone, HRS monitor on dedicated sports watch. Been using Polar HRS with phone app, which obviously is PITA when you are on the go, Especially when using for hiking, like in phone unfriendly environments like a driving rain. OTA hand being an older (66), uh hi BMI like 33 and undertrained I need a 99% + accurate BPM when I'm crawling up the last of that 800ft climb. Just got a Garmin inspire, understood that some BPM variability. Used for first time last night on a stair climber and spent more time trying to comprehend the quantitative and time-lag differences between G and Polar HRS/Phone than I actually did on the activity, which involved a lot of sweat and blood flow. So thank you for that. Awesome. Now over to AMAZON to order the, wallah, Garmin HRS. 😄🤔. I will be back to check out rest of channel, as noted need training for hiking. Best

thanks for clarifying this. I bought the strap and the watch and was thinking the strap was pointless, but now I understand. :)

Very straight-forward breakdown of the options. Thank you!

I have the fenix 7 pro (elevate 5), I'm checking it together with the band with the auxiliary heart rate app... the precision is impressive, even during repetitions. I tried to do an extreme test (repeated short uphill runs for 20 seconds at maximum), it performed well there too

I never could keep the modern chest straps in working order. Clean them regularly and the break, seldom clean and they apparently short circuit. Went with the smart watch with a broadcast HR function. Works well.

Hi (3:00) - Not sure that Apple Watch is supporting Ant+ (as it is a protocol developed by Garmin). I would say that Android and Apple are supporting Bluetooth strap. Garmin watches are compatible with both bluetooth and Ant+.

Super helpful video...it's been so long since I had one of the first generation Polar systems, I had no idea which direction to take lol. Thanks for all the info!

Very interesting! I always wondered how the optical sensor worked. I wore my cheapo fitness watch along with my famous brand chest strap sensor through different workouts to compare the results. They seem close enough for my purposes so I pretty much stick with the more convenient watch method, although its readings did fluctuate more than the chest sensor.

I hear good things about the Polar H10, I’m thinking about getting one and pairing it to my Apple Watch.

Minor correction, I think. At about the 3 minutes mark - Apple devices do not support ANT+ “natively” are more readily compatible with Bluetooth LE, as opposed to the ANT+ type of wireless signal.

And many Android devices support ANT+ “natively” but should also have Bluetooth LE compatibility as well.

Have a older Apple Watch series 4 finding it not to be accurate. Have a new Garmin find it giving at least give immediate feedback and seems to work fine.

Thanks for this video! I was searching for a video from a woman's perspective. As I have a large chest, I was wondering how this would work. I appreciate your detailed info.

This is really helpful! I've got a garmin watch so if I buy a strap not from garmin I'll have to take my phone with me on runs to read my HR since it won't come up on my watch?

Sounds like the wrist band is actually measuring pulse which can be entirely different than heart rate depending on the person's fitness and other health factors.
