Shaun Murphy lived in a small town, suffered from autism as a child, his father often beat and abused him, and he was bullied by school bullies. Shaun has a younger brother named Steve, and he takes it upon himself to protect his brother, but Steve dies in an accident, leaving Shaun without the only person he can talk to, and Shaun decides to become a life-saving doctor.

They have medicines that can induce anesthesia and sedation during the procedure. Doctors do not need to give her narcotics, or barbituates per the patients choice. Their was no reason for her to be awake. Of course, she would have just passed out from the pain, I guess.
