The most Devilish sounds of drums I have ever heard, it was instant love when I first listened to it quite few years back. This is their best album so far for me. wish I could find a way to have my snare sound like the one in album.

The production is exactly what Black Metal is supposed to sound like. I heard a quote once that Black metal is recorded to turn people away from it. Not sure who made this quote but it makes sense.

By "Tubes and Fuck ups" they mean effects on the song "A wise birthgiver" which are "handled by" (added and managed by) Mr. Knut Valle. The second half of this song was recorded not at Mølla Studio but in Myhome-Yourtomb Studio.
(or at least that's the way I know)

Two more things:
Firstly, can you please let everyone know about the next material you are going to review so we can listen/relisten to it beforehand?

And lastly, Art...! I think by "whatever" you mean "Art"! :D

agree about difference between albums but Blasphemer compositions are very specific and even without catchy melodies you can recognize his playing and style easy . he is amazing composer and guitarist big shame he is not member anymore...

Mayhem is a one of a kind. Truly an evolving entity of chaos. My favorite would be 'Grand Declaration of War' as a whole, although I do love the sexy grooves from 'Chimera'.

It's kind of funny when people talk about "traditions" or "kvlt" in black metal, lifting quintessential bands like Darkthrone, Mayhem and Burzum to the pedestal, when they were actually the most unorthodox bands in the whole "genre." They've had technical death metal, progressive / avant-garde stuff, ambient, spoken word and other experimental spices in their music.

And then you have the kvltposers who say "synthesizers aren't black metal" and say "Watain, Tsjuder and Dark Funeral are orthodox", taking their idea of kvlt from somewhere they don't even know themselfs. Oh, how delicious it is to imagine the kvltbois from 2000 when Mayhem released 'Grand Declaration of War' and they bought it with their hard-earned money just to start REEEing and crying over the electrobeat in 'Bloodsword and a Colder Sun'.

Really accurate and great review, you have the exact same opinion on this album as me, it was almost like I knew what you were saying next! I can fully agree on all those points, also I think that Attila is an amazing singer. I wouldn't have thought that you'd review this album, so I was really surprised and happy about this video since "Ordo Ad Chao" is my absolute favourite Mayhem album! Worth mentioning though is the "melody" of the song "Illuminate Eleminate" at the end of the song (08:25), this one will always stay in my head..

I love this album! The more comfortable I've gotten with it over the years, the more I enjoy it as a large picture, or whole album. I play guitar and drums so, imaging their technique's as is listen or practice is so out of my thought process, but that much more enjoyable due to the element of surprise. I thought your description of the album was absolutely correct. Options play a part, but your accuracy was very intelligent and refreshing (especially for YouTube) great job!

Here are some "fun facts" about the production of this album.
The drum sub mix was processed through a tube preamp.
Also, Blasphemer came up with the guitar sound on his computer and he threatened to bring his computer with his own sound card to Mølla studio if Knut couldn't replicate it exactly.

May I ask what camera did you use for this video? The quality is really nice.

Excellent review and definitely reflects my disappointment in this album! Your repetitive use of the word “whatever” made me laugh so hard and in the same time realize “yeah I guess maybe the band decided to say fuck it and put whatever abstract confusion”. But I’m super relieved that Mayhem did not continue in the same direction as this album.

Their more recent album Daemon is amazing!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Knut Magne Valle is Arcturus guitarist, he's a well-known musician in Norway, who also has a studio and mixed, produced Ordo Ad Chao... It would be great to hear you review Chimera, Grand Declaration Of War, or Esoteric Warfare... Hellhammer's drumming is unique and different from album to album, you could add Arcturus, Winds and Age Of Silence but those are different genres...
