Every home we've owned I installed a whole house fan. We use it year round and run it all night during the summer. My neighbors are running their a/c 24/7 while I only run mine for a few hours when it's 100 or above. For example, today was 98, I'm running the fan at midnight and am really cold making it really cozy and we sleep much better. Saves $100 every month and also wear and tear on the a/c unit. On warm evenings when there's no breeze we have basically a wind tunnel from the open windows (on the cooler side of the house, east and north sides). It does get dusty but worth it. Easy to install and a must have.

My father installed one of these in our home in Michigan when I was a kid and they are awesome! We would crack all the windows in the house open about 2 or 3 inches, turn it on, and the house would cool down in just minutes! Definitely plan on installing one in my new house in Tennessee. If you like fresh air you will love one of these

This thing works well in dry climates and its 70 and dry, not so well when its 70 degrees and humid outside in the evenings. By the way, I live in San Diego CA and absolutely love ours all year long. It would not be practical in our South Texas property except in Fall when the humidity drops.

It's 90 plus here in Ga in the summer. Even good insulated houses after the sun is beaming on the side of the house the walls will get warm not only the attic.I don't see how sucking in 90 air with humidity of 85 and 90% is going to help cool off my house in that. Don't forget sucking in all the extra humidity that a AC system actually takes out of the house, that might be an issue down here in Georgia for mold growing.

Fast forward to 2021, now you can control many of these fans with an app 💡

For second version why not just power attic vent and keep ac on?

I live in the SW usual summer temps 95 to 115 relativive humidity is 33% I have a 1300 sq ft house and it is a hot house, you can open every window and the cold air outside does not come inside, I know I am perfect candidate for one. One issue I have a room above the family room with no access unless you got into the ceiling.

Doesnt that creat moisture in the attic?

The house fan is located upstairs, is it ok just to open windows on the upper level?

Thinking about adding one of these because it's much cheaper than a dual-zone HVAC unit in a two-story. Curious how quickly it cools off a house compared to just opening up the windows?

I wonder if a whole house fan has benefits in a place where is hot and humid day and night. Maybe just an attic fan?

I live in MA, where a whole house fan is a great idea for 85% of the warm weather months (sometimes, you just gotta get the humidity OUT of the air). Three years ago, I had a roofing contractor put in 70 (!) soffit vents, and then the Energy Star people came and insulated and sealed the house. They added Propavents to my attic, plus a snazzy insulated hatch door that seals onto a gasket (WOO)! It's a newer roof with no gables, with ridge vents along the entire top. My worry about getting a whole house fan is that I will be pushing interior air into a wall of resistance in the attic; that ridge vent can only let so much air out. Is it worth investigating?

I just bought a house made in 74 and it has a whole house fan but unfortunately the previous owners had storm windows installed and they won't open so I have to open the doors at night instead.

I live in GA so it gets plenty hot a lot of the year. I have a new home, 20yrs old. I'd like to do something like this but my attic entry is way to one side of the house. (My bedroom) Will it still be effective? Or is it better to get 3 attic fans, one for each vent on either side of home??

When having a gas powered central heater in the attic, what type of whole house fan would be recommended to prevent pilot light from being blow out?
