In this video I want to SHOW the difference between the large 1.4 Fujinon lenses and the Small Fujicron lenses. I think if you are starting out and you are interested in video as well as photography. Then, get start with the f2 lenses. You won't regret it, they are super reliable!

Special thanks to Chade for helping me do a music video demo:

This might be your best video. It's very practical with very good examples.

Hi mate. Have you seen the XT3 firmware update? Does this make any of thef/1.4 lenses better with the AF?

The 23mm has for sure best auto focus, but the look of 16mm f1.4... Wow!!
Helpful video, thanks!

Great video, but one simple question: which prime lens do I need apart from the kit 18-55 f2.8-4 (which I own) for video? think low light video capture of forests, inside buildings, 6-10 foot interviews in dim light, do I need f1.4 or will 2.0 be ok?

I bought the 35 f2 recently and the continuous autofocus is horrible on my unit. When it hunts for focus, it's super jerky and it hunts a fair bit. I have the 23 f2 as well and it's continuous autofocus performance is almost as bad. I have the 18-55 kit lens and it's smooth. I don't know if I have a faulty unit?

Between the 23 f/2 and the 35 f/2 which one do you find yourself using the most? I've been using the 23 f/2 a lot lately so much so that the black finish is starting to wear off LOL.

dont u prefer the 16mm wideness for video? i like 23 for photo a lot but the top/botom crop of the video make it too narrow...

Would a 1.4 work ok with you just facing the camera like you did for much of this video? Or would it still fumble at times over a 2.0? Thanks

Thanks man. Was seriously gonna get the 1.4 for the bokeh, but I shoot video and that autofocus is absolutely unacceptable. The f2's autofocus looks miles better

amazing comparison... Would you suggest 16mm 1.4 for short cinematic videos.. like an event highlight video. Please let us know

Would be nice to see how it would fare as 1.8 or 2 compared to the f/2. However, I would also say that the way you shot the 23mm makes it much harder for the lens to lose tracking since the main part of what is in the frame is the face (and even towards the end you can see that it loses focus) while in the 18 the camera was so far back that it was struggling to identify whether the person or the buildings were the focus (23mm b roll also didn't have buildings in frame, they were behind subject). I think its unfair to compare them this way. Just my opinion though

Nice video! I am thinking of doing a video comparing the 23 f1.4 vs the f2 for video as I have both. Still need to do some more testing with the f1.4. But yes, the f1.4 16 and 35 are not good for auto focus in video. The 23mm on the other hand seems to be the best amongst the 1.4 lenses for video from my experience. But I agree the f2’s are better for video handsdown

You're a lifesaver! I subscribed right away because I was looking for Fujifilm X-T3 user that compares the 16mm f1.4 and 23mm f2! I wish you will also compare the 23mm f1.4 vs 23mm f2 "for both photography and video"~
