MUST WATCH: Former Labour MP John McDonnell: 'I Was Not Elected To Impoverish My Constituents'

John McDonnell, the former shadow chancellor who now sits as an independent, says the government's economic inheritance is "toxic".

He reckons one in four eligible for pension credit will not be able to claim in time, so would not therefore be able to avoid the cut.

Referring to the Tories, he says he "regrets voting for a motion put forward by these characters" but will do so, adding: "We don't need to put the burden on the poorest."
