Yes you don’t need to present your passport but you do need a passport to get Global Entry (the membership).
What is Global Entry?
Global Entry is a Trusted Traveler Program that allows pre-approved, low-risk international travelers to get expedited customs screening when entering the United States.
How much is Global Entry?
As of today the application fee is $100 and is non-refundable, even if your application is denied. You can pay by credit card or through an electronic bank transfer.
On October 1, 2024 Global Entry will increase to $120 but if you have children under 18 they can get it for free. So kinda like a BOGO.
Even if you don’t drive to Canada or travel internationally often it makes sense because you also get TSA Pre-Check. When you fly domestically you can skip those lines and keep your shoes on.
