my bf just asked me “why did she say she was gay, she’s so young”. and i literally remembered the episode and said “oh, no. she’s just confused” and he stared at me with the sternest eyes ever. and i started laughing because i literally turned into cam trying to explain it to him. 😂

Context and maybe spoilers:

Lily (the kid) has gay parents so she thinks she's gay too. Because her friend at school is italian which makes him Italian so since her parents are gay, she's sure she's gay too (as a person. Doesn't really know that gay is sexuality and not what you are). It's not racist or homophobic. It's just a child being precious and literal.

I actually see it as a testament of their (mostly) good parenting for an adopted foreign kid to be able feel like that with her parents. She has no idea what gay is. She only knows they are so she must be as well.

I’m all for gay marriage cause marrying who you love is everyone’s right. But man this would be difficult for gay parents. It’s cool how the show made this gay couple realistic. And showed the difficulties gay couples face, despite all the rights they have now in America.
