Absolutely correct about needing to reach 8 if you need a 7.6.
We also had 2 guys fail the PFA when I was there, one passed the next day and the other went home after the third failed attempt.

for reservists they don't even send you home anymore, surprising but maybe a lifesaver for those on the edge. (me)
