My doctor checks my ankles and legs every visit. Thankfully, i was able to stop taking blood pressure meds and water pills years ago. He still checks! Even when I had what I thought was thin ankles, if the pitting took more than just a few seconds to go down...i had to be medicated to keep it from swelling.

It’s also a sign of preeclampsia if you’re pregnant. Something you don’t fool around with.

I had edema, in my ankles. The blood pressure medication, Amlodapin. One day the edema
got so bad, my calves, were swollen also. I was so scared. Shortly after, I had my first stroke. My doctor took me off the medication, thankfully. This was in 2009. I hope that never happens again. I was only 50.

It is not necessarily hallmark of CHF. It's seen in many more conditions like chronic kidney disease, liver damage, etc

My pitting edema is from veinous insufficiency but who knows could be my heart to it’s sad to think I’m only 34 and have this issue. I feel this patients pain and hope they get better sooner than later.

Thanks for showing this.. for me the pitting was the only way to diagnose my pregnancies since I got what looked like Mense for 5 months each child. I’d press my thumb on the bottom of my foot and if it didn’t pop back up bundle of joy was on the way. Interesting that this assist in other conditions.

I have CAD and my doctor was so concerned about my lower extremity swelling that he sent me to AE two weeks ago . I also have a kidney stone that blocked my kidney a year ago, after two operations after being found literally unresponsive on the floor they found out that the stone fragmentation split my kidney open and I was bleeding out . I was told this time that my BP meds were causing the swelling . Not convinced as still on them and at the moment they are fine
