Please join the Freeman Chair in China Studies for a discussion on how Chinese public opinion affects the durability of the Chinese Communist Party. At the heart of political commentary on China lies a paradox between the view that the CCP lacks procedural illegitimate and signs of disenchantment by certain segments of the population on the one hand and public opinion polls that show substantial regime support on the other. The Freeman Chair will host China scholars Bruce J. Dickson, author of the Dictator’s Dilemma: The Chinese Communist Party’s Strategy for Survival, and Tang Wenfang, author of Populist Authoritarianism: Chinese Political Culture and Regime Sustainability, to discuss this puzzle, which they both address in their recently published books. Bill Bishop, editor of The Sinocism China Newsletter, will offer his reactions to the insights offered by Dickson and Tang as well as share his own observations about trends in popular attitudes in China.

In a recent PEW survey it was established that 87% of Chinese are satisfied with there government while the same survey found only 27% of Americans were satisfied with the way they are ruled. I think there should be regime change in USA for which all of us should work towards.

34:24 There was no shortage of private questions on accountability and whether government action was sufficient in light of the Sichuan earthquake, which was admittedly a challenging situation one way or the other. But in Taiwan, you can voice your dissatisfaction. You got a bunch of people (Opposition Party) whose full time job is to voice dissatisfaction and to seize on every opportunity to enlarge the volume of their voice. The lack of expression doesn't mean satisfaction.
I also have misgivings on this presenter's other surveys and examples. But this one stands out.

I have many mainland CCP friends. Not one joined because of ideology. They all joined, to a person, to have more "doors" open to them. Also the PENSIONS are much better in the government than in the private sector. Also, for many, they are "protected" from laws that the 92% of the population who are not CCP members must follow.

Why not organise a government change in China like what was done in Iraq, Libya etc. rather than wasting time criticizing China without doing anything
