nikon 70 300mm lens hack into 600mm focal length

Using a dremel i cutaway a piece of the lens mount and then was able to attach a 2X teleconvertor to the 70-300mm lens giving me a 600mm focal length - after doing some field test shots and reviewing them it looks to me that even tho the settings say F/5.6 the y look more to me about a F/11 which would make more sense..if your looking for a cheap way to get some focal distance and you have a teleconvertor this is a easy hack to do!

ive been using my new lens mod now for a few days and ive been getting great results with good lighting even tho my display is showing f/5.6 the photos at that setting look about a f/11 but over all if you cant afford to spend $9000 on a f/4 600mm this trick will definately do in a pinch.

it might be saying 5.6 because the lens was never meant to be used with the teleconverter, so it doesnt really know what to tell the camera. the 2x tele also makes you lose 2 stops of light, so youre really at f/11 when youre wide open at 600mm. thats why the autofocus was going nuts, most nikon cameras (excluding the d4, d800, and i believe d600) need at least 5.6 to autofocus.
