This is almost frustrating to watch as a guy risked and ultimately gave his life just to retrieve a skeleton. It’s tragic

My question is, why do people say they would do it the same all over again if the result was tragedy? Makes no sense. Do not do it again,

The visual depiction of the cavern makes it much easier to follow the story, great job! Maybe you could show where these caves are located on a map :D

Dryers family should have know how dangerous it was with the death of their own son, and when they met with Shaw, should have told and persuaded him not to do it.

So basically, if there is a water cave, someone has died in it.

All that for a bag of bones. What a waste. I bet the first dude would rather be buried down in a cave. The rescue diver wouldn't do it again. Better be alive with his family.

5:35 For anyone wondering about how far Dave Shaw went. The audio says Shaw descended 270 feet and the model shows 270 meters. I was curious which one was right because 270 feet would be an understatement to 270 meters. Online sources say he went 270 or 271 meters which is approximately 885-889 ft.

It was not a rescue mission, It was a body recovery

Hypercapnia means an excess of carbon dioxide. Breaking down the word into its prefix, root-word and suffix we can understand "hyper" meaning excess, "capn" meaning carbon dioxide, and "ia" meaning condition of.

The medical term for excess of carbon monoxide is simply carbon monoxide poisoning.

Great video but there are a few things that were a little off. On the day of the equipment retrieval, both Shaw and Dreyer’s bodies miraculously both floated to the service with their lines still entangled together. Miraculously, Shaw had in fact accomplished what he set out to do! And on the day of the dive, Don Shirley passed a note up with the support divers during his long ascent telling everybody he knew Dave was gone and not coming back. And they also retrieved the camera that Shaw had mounted on his helmet, which dramatically captured his struggle and untimely death on film. The video is available here on YouTube. I’ll warn you that it is traumatic to watch.

There is more to the story. When the team was cleaning up their equipment days later, they pulled up a line and attached to the line was dave, and attached to dave was deon. Dave floated up with Deon trailing behind.

These kind of people should not expect others to risk their lives to rescue them if something goes wrong. Each to their own, but I have no idea how people want to do these scary, risky things 💀

5:18 "on January ... freezing winter air."
January is summer in South Africa.

You will never be able to convince me that cave diving/exploring is an exciting hobby. It’s just the same thing that’s on the surface with less or no air.

If I ever do these activities, I'll make sure to let everyone know "DO NOT retrieve body if I passed"

I wish more videos would be like this, showing step by step where they were and what it looked like. Please keep this aspect!

This one is especially tragic, a good person gone while attempting to help a grieving family.

Okay, I'm going in, just in case there are any more bodies down there that need rescue. I know it's a bottomless hole of instant death, but I'm sure I'll be fine.

I don't understand why they think it's more important to burry the left overs than someone's living life
