This is why America is living paycheck to paycheck

Inflation and the rising cost of fast food & groceries aren't the only reasons we're broke...here's the truth.

We've all been programmed to pay for convenience which keeps us living paycheck to paycheck. I compared the cost of food delivery, vs pick-up, vs home cooked to see how much money we overspend every month. You'll be shocked at the results!! Many households neglect to budget their money and end up overspending on food, groceries, and many other things. With inflation in America today it's more important than ever to save more money so that we can start investing for retirement and have a better quality of life in the future.

How much do you spend on food every month?

I spend 0 on doordash/Uber eats, 0 on coffee at cafe. 95% eat at home. Only eat out on special occasions . I put that money into ETF’s

If you're spending $400 a month on delivery food then your priorities aren't right.

Keep in mind, you got 5 meals from the grocery store, which means the next 4 meals, you are not traveling to the store.

It’s equally expensive in Dublin (Ireland). Deliveries are just money inefficient. What I am truly horrified by in States is tipping culture. I paid for food, I paid tax, I paid the delivery, why am I obliged to pay extra? Like for what? Americans should stop tipping completely and make corporations pay normal salaries.

Fast food was more of a treat back in the day. Because everyone cooked.

AS a recently retired OTR truck driver, I bought all of my food in grocery stores and prepared them on the truck. I had a 3000watt inverter, microwave, fridge, hotplate, kettle and tableware. I ate salad, eggs, fajitas, oatmeal, fresh fruit ect. It was VERY rare to eat in the truck stops unless I ran into a trucker friend. I saved a TON of money and I weigh 210lbs (on my way down to 200) at 6'3" at 65 yo. I retired in the Philippines with a small paid off home and a paid off truck/motorcycle in the US. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Poor people are living paycheck to paycheck and still using Doordash? This is lunacy. Lazy people get to stay poor.

Common sense is knowing it’s always cheaper to cook at home and “paper bag” your lunch to work.

I've never Doordash and I can't see myself ever doing so.

Tipping a delivery driver based on the cost of the food is absolutely absurd. If I order half or double the amount of food, the driver is making the same trip.

Doordash gets $0.00 from me. My monthly groceries are about $325-350, but a lot of food, organic and pesticide free, comes fom my garden.

I cannot BELIEVE people are so stupid and LAZY. I tried to do a Doordash order ONE time and cancelled that shi# so fast when I saw the price. Fast food is unhealthy and disgusting. It's BAD ENOUGH to eat that garbage, let alone to pay to have it delivered. And the people who do it are always complaining about inflation and price gouging...This is so scary and totally avoidable!!!

If you're eating at fast food restaurants AND living paycheck to paycheck you have yourself to blame. Fast food has NEVER been an economical alternative to the grocery store.

I don’t eat out much because of the high price. You saved $20 by cooking it yourself. 👍

Unfortunately, the “American way” has become all about convenience. Our grandparents treated eating out as a luxury, not an everyday/ multiple times a day convenience.

Granted, all prices have increased about average 30-40%, but much of what Americans are upset about is all of the ultra processed foods and eating out. What’s crazier is that we continue to buy the items we’re upset about, thus demonstrating to companies that we are willing to pay the price.

Generally, I don’t think many ppl weren’t taught how to budget and plan meals. It takes a little time and effort but makes a world of difference, especially right now.

You're missing a whole downside. Fast food is loaded with additives that you'll eventually pay back one way or another. Whatever you make at home is going to be much healthier

The only American who won't acknowledge this Administration's failed economic policies is Joe Biden. "Shrink-flation' is the least of our worries compared to rising rents and stagnant wages, but it is an undeniable indicator of how bad our inflation has gotten. I have $100k that i like to invest in a non-retirement account, any advice on that?

I cook at home because I know the value and quality of groceries
