ADHD and anxiety can be a brutal combination - and I know this from experience. In this video, I share my personal experience with managing anxiety and ADHD symptoms by improving the state of my nervous system. I discuss the different states of the nervous system, including the ventral vagal, sympathetic, and dorsal vagal states, and how they affect our well-being. I also talk about some practices I've incorporated into my daily routine, such as giving up coffee, cold plunging, and adjusting my workout routine. Additionally, I offer tips on how to experiment with different techniques to regulate your nervous system and improve emotional well-being. Join me as I delve into the fascinating world of nervous system management and share my journey towards a calmer mind and body.

I love coffee, but I metabolize caffeine super slow. Even 4oz of coffee can make my anxiety go through the roof, and then I crash hard. I can not express how much better I feel being 100% caffine free. This has been an important lesson about my own personal adhd journey.

Exercising has DEFINITELY helped me get more focused and in the right mood to get things done. I always feel a bit sad when someone says that "exercising doesn't work for them" or that they hate exercising, cause it has helped me so much and i love how it makes me feel.

Hot yoga is my morning coffee. I am so in love with how good I feel during and after.

I’m going to try rejection and perfectionism therapy as an experiment. To create and put out there things I’m afraid are not good enough, and apply to freelance roles I’m afraid I’m not good enough for. Let’s run the experiment!

There is definitely a need for more ways to manage ADHD naturally :-)

This is very well done Caren. I'm not sure if I've seen many videos that address the challenges that we (and I'm in that group) with ADHD and anxiety have. Bravo!

I've found caffeine helps with adhd symptoms but exacerbates the anxiety. Not great when you have to function in this exhausting neurotypical world. I've found alot of solutions to one problem can be skewed by the other comorbidities, so I'm interested in watching this video

i've done #2 for the last several months and it made my nervous system and immune system better 😊 but people with heart conditions are not advised to do that because it might be dangerous for them, so if you have comorbid diseases such as high blood pressure, please consult your doctor before trying anything drastic ❤

Thank you for such a great video and for sharing your experiments! :)
Definitely agree with any sort of physical activity. I was doing yoga 2 times a week some years ago and it was helping immensely with being productive, focused and collected (I stopped because I moved to a different country). I actually have a yoga mat in my closet, so I will try and experiment with this and see how it goes!
I did notice that having an awful sleeping schedule is just spiking my anxiety and irritation a lot, so I'm working on fixing that one up to begin with as well :)

I use a really hot sauna. I prefer heat to the cold plunge

Cold plunging is definitely a good thing 🥶 It’s challenging and definitely worth it!!

Coffee… only after eating a fair amount of food + before supper—preferably before 5 pm, otherwise… coffee’s not so hot. My fingers might start shaking. …Cold plunging? Pregnant people have been doing this. …Yoga🧘🏽‍♀️ goes without saying. Cheers.

L-theanine kills all the runaway intrusive thoughts, impulses and general anxiety for me. It doesn’t necessarily help the focus aspect (maybe a little). 200mg once a day. I can get some things done now, but that’s more of an effect of not having the constant mental churn rather than heightened focus.

What happens when you have ADHD, anxiety and depression? Cause I have them all... How can I control my nervous system in that case, and find inner balance?

Hello, I was wondering if you could please tell me your yoga routine?

I'll try turning off the hot water for the last few seconds in the shower. I'm actually fearful of the painful sensation in my chest. I can hardly handle frozen foods when taking them out of the freezer. Anyone else experience that? Maybe it's a sensory thing.

Could you link research to all these points please. Especially re the 3 physical components of vagus nerve in relation to the 3state? I've never seen that before
