Norman Reedus said that he was not expecting her to hug him like that. It was not in the script and it caught him off guard. So the emotion we are seeing here was really him feeling what his character felt. The emotion was raw and pure. I wish we could have seen more of the two of them together.

Daryl is the one we know is the hardest to get close to but when he loses someone he considers close to him, we hurt with him. She embraced him knowing hes blaming himself and is hurting for the loss of her family and her pain of losing them and he feels like nobody understands. A hug can be a powerful thing if words are too hard to put together.

Daryl is so strong and he puts on a brave face for everybody. When someone else is in pain, he hides his own. But when he breaks down and fall apart like this, he can't cover the pain anymore
