i think judy's version of this christmas classic is the standard by which all others should be measured.  she sings it with such a beautiful wistfulness.  i prefer the original wording, too, which is used in this version.

The scene where she sings this to her baby sister "Tootie" (played by Margaret O'Brien) in "Meet Me in St. Louis" is one of the most poignant in film history. She is trying to comfort the little girl as they both realize that it will be the last Christmas they ever spend in the grand old house in which they and their other sisters have grown up. Judy Garland owns this song! She originated it and no one other singer has ever come close to the amount of feeling she puts into every lyric!

Here crying my eyes out, so much has changed, it's now Christmas 2021 and all I have are memories of family that passed away and old long lost friends. Christmas has now become sad instead of joyful.
