I have a bachelor's in linguistics. Dialects are the amount of common grammar, vocabulary, etc that speech has in a common language. Accent is the effect of a foreign language has on the pronunciation of a language. There was re also prelanguages such as Creoles and pidgens.

In acting Accents are the actual way you speak based off of your location and Dialects is the term used when you are imitating another’s accent ❤️

I think every "so called dialect" of Italy is in reality a language: if you listen to them they are very different to each other and their origin is independent of Italian
Every region has their own native language
We can say that Italian is based on ancient Tuscanian and a lot of other languages mixed

I look at dialects as a written number. For example, "10" is spoken in hundreds of different ways. Written down, you know what it means to you.

Just to clarify: Google says there are roughly 30 major dialects within the US, but my question is, how many accents does that make? To my understanding, some dialects are only separated by the differences in vocabulary, phrases and grammar while the accent itself might be fairly identical to another dialect.

the way i learned it in germany is;
saxon, bavarian, austrian and hollandisch are dialects of german
and englisch, spanish and italians speak german with their respective accents
also "learned" that german and english alphabeth have 5 vowels each but according to the german definition of "vowel" german has 8 and english only 1
now i´m never really sure what words mean

So~ As long as you can understand it's a variety or a dialect but there are 20 diffrent varieties of Italian in Italy alone does that make Spanish and Purtoguese the same language?! Ok as long as they're written in the same spelling they're only varieties 😅

Languages have their own scripts but dialects don't. That is the only difference between them.
