3:30 Actually the 1930 would have been extremely exciting to a technophile. Most of the technology we take for granted were only just coming on line in that era. The automobile, air travel, jet engines, much faster ocean liners, zeppelins, steam power, electrical power.
For a person who was about 20 to 30 years old none of these things were common when they were born. For the first time in history technology was really taking off. Consider this: Humans went from the first airplane to walking on the moon within a SINGLE human lifetime. A person could have witnessed the first Wright Brother's flight and be old enough to remember it 66 years later as he watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon on his television.

I've read a little bit on Dyson Spheres and I think for realisms sake, the most feasible model for anything Dyson-related would be something like a large Dyson Belt. Constructing something like an entire sphere, cage, or any other fully encompassing/encapsulating structure would just be too monumental a task for humanity to actually attempt to pull off.

But, as you pointed out, the sheer logistics of mining, gathering, transporting, and just about every other aspect of actually trying to build one makes doing so all but impossible.

Building the swarm one by one is entirely possible, once you start getting more and more energy, you ramp up your building, and eventually you'd have enough energy and computing power to track every little speck of dust in the solar system so nothing could disturb the swarm

In one of my friends Warhammer 40k black crusade games the game ended when the party decided to build a Dyson sphere around their local sun. Long story short: shit went horribly wrong because pirates can't make Dyson spheres and as a result the entire party wiped.
