Rickson shows common mistake made by guard players

One of the laws of BJJ is: if you're unable to apply a basic position, for sure you're making a basic mistake.

A mistake that, despite basic, may be almost imperceptible to the naked eye.

That is why Rickson Gracie, jiu-jitsu scientist, teaches like a specialist in his lab—ready to demonstrate flaws, angles, details and microscopic strokes of skill. Which, in the end, make an enormous difference in your training.

Check out on this video the most common mistake made by guard players who try to slide to the back, but end up frustrated and tired, back in the initial position.

By the way, the technique is so basic and effective, that Rickson used it in 1980 in his vale-tudo debut to slide to the back of Zulu. And the details remain as useful as they have ever been.

Solid technique and mindset. This guy has forgotten more about fighting than most guys today will ever know

Crazy this video popped up on my YT feed because a new white belt was doing this to me just yesterday. Squeezing my head in the guard. I didn't know this technique. All I did was say: "Hey...stop doing that. You're wasting time here." He let go and I taught him a simple gaurd pass. Cool technique though. Would love to train with Rickson some day.

This will work very well when you're fighting Goldilocks

Three people have wisdom in these comments.
Furthermore …
How is learned from people in action. No matter how good technique is and I’m not speaking of this one. Still, it doesn’t compare to learning what people are in the middle of fighting. Learn from UFC learn from jujitsu matches. For people that are teaching you some thing from a match. How it works on the clock starts ticking.

She didn’t keep her base. Probably he didn’t say it enough times.

headlock escape from closed guard. i wouldn't say anyone makes that mistake, because no one is ever in that position. only people who have never trained would try to head lock you when they are in your guard. a good self defense option maybe but not a common mistake
