Cloudjumper was just mesmerized by Hiccup because he was so adorable as baby. He was staring at him like he was the most precious thing in the world.

I love the fact cloud jumper was as gentle as possible and read his body language and it was clear he didnt mean to cut hiccup and is just a curious little boy

I love how Cloudjumper didn’t even mean to hurt Hiccup, he was as gentle as possible. It would’ve been so cute if Cloudjumper had recognized Hiccup from the scar. I love Cloudjumper, he’s such a gentle soul.

I agree with the other comments here that Cloudjumper was curious/admiring Hiccup, as most dragons have never and will never meet a human infant.
Notice how Cloudjumper flinches back after cutting Hiccup, clearly never intending to harm them but startled by how fragile the infant was to slightest touch of even what I assume to be the dull claw meant for interacting with the species' environment and not combat. Yet it still cut him, human infants are just *that* fragile compared to a dragon's hatchlings.

I think in the following scene of Valka standing off against them, Cloudjumper is initially trying to communicate apologising to Valka using nonverbal methods.

P.S. I love that Hiccup's scar was there in the first film and possibly the TV series'. Even if the lore of it was a later addition, using a unexplained scar that was already part of Hiccup's design, I still love that it was always there.
P.P.S. I know RTTE began after the second film was released, so I'd hope it was there, but that's why I neglected to include it.

I have the exact same scar on my face and when I realized it was there on the second movie (I was like, 6 or 7 I think) I literally got so excited because I thought I was related to hiccup 🥺

My theory: He heard Valka walking in and detected her as a threat against Hiccup until he saw her with the sword and Valka looked at Hiccup then Cloudjumper and slightly put up the sword and as she did that he figured out She wasn’t going to hurt the baby (Hiccup)

I noticed that and it's really cool that they added that small detail into the movies! I love to look around the entire scene when watching How to Train Your Dragon and any other movies because I like to see all of the details that people put into it.

I’ve always wondered how he got such a permanent scar when all Cloudjumper did was scratch him a little like irl THAT WOULDNT HAVE LASTED A *MONTH* PEOPLE, LET ALONE 20 GODDAMN YEARS
