STORIES HURT. STORIES HEAL. The Jangly Man is a new creation made for the 2019 film adaptation of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, but he seems to be an amalgamation of several scary stories from the original books by Alvin Schwartz. Learn how the Jangly Man combined portions of "Me Tie Dough-ty Walker", "Aaron Kelly's Bones" and "What Do You Come For?".

About Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind...but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

Fun fact! There is a much longer version of Old Aaron's Kelly's bones. In that version he's married and his wife had a dream of a beautiful wedding. And a few days later, Aaron passed away, only to come back to start dancing. Back in my home state of Tennessee, there is an old wives' tale that states if you dream of a wedding it means someone close to you or someone you know will die soon. And while that part is not in the scary stories book, I thought I'd mentioned it here.

Fun Fact: The musical theme that plays throughout the movie is "The Hearse Song, " which is another story from the books

Fun fact "The Hearse Song" that plays in the background is a very old song. When I sang it as a kid from the book my mom joined in. My grandpa had taught it to her. His father taught it to him. Considering my grandpa would be over 120 years old if he were alive, it's quite an old song

I love the fact that the jangly man was a contortionist is a suit and a mask with its face upside down

The jangly man was easily the scariest monster in the whole movie and it was awesome!

If you pay attention to the dog's whimpers in the movie, you can actually hear him faintly say his lines
*"Lynchee Kinchy Colly Molly Dingo Dingo!"*

As a kid I use to walk backwards on all 4s and sprint at people to scare them.
To see someone use such a great talent in art like this brings a smile to my childhood self lmfao

Oh my lord I had no idea the Jangly Man was a dude in a suit and not entirely a CGI creation! Honestly, I'm seriously impressed.

I didn't grow up with these books and have actually never heard of them before watching the film, so getting to know the origins of those creatures is pretty neat

You should make this a series explaining the monsters

Don’t know if you’ve covered it, but I just remembered Mama in 2013. It was one of the first horror movies I ever saw, but being like 9 or 10 when I saw it, I was not smart enough to understand the timeline or who mama actually was. If you could cover it, that would be awesome.

The contortionist who plays The Jangly Man, Troy James or Twisty Troy, also plays "Pretzel Jack" in The Dream Door from the acclaimed horror anthology series, Channel Zero from Nick Antosca the creator of Brand New Cherry Flavor and Antlers.

Im glad they made an original monster for the "final boss" of the movie. If they were to have another story from the books be the final monster the movie focused on, it would have made whatever that story was feel more important than the others. But, by combining aspects of different stories into a unique creature it doesn't rob from any that came earlier. And if anyone were to look into the books for The Jangly Man, they wouldn't be put off by him not being there due to his origins being inspired by multiple stories. Honestly really well done

I actually have all 3 original books. when I was in grade school I had borrowed them from our school library but never returned them because I loved them so much. I'd forgotten all about them until I happened upon a video discussing the illustration of the woman with the rotting face in the 1st book. It was that drawing, and that drawing alone that attracted me to those books and in the end keeping them as well. I was only 8 at the time and I remember getting so excited because I knew I had found something truly scary and obviously I was right otherwise I wouldn't still have them today.

The actor has been in quite a few things like Flash and Channel zero, he's definitely unique.

Troy James worked at a haunt that I got hired at a year after he left! I’ve met him before. Super nice dude!
