Firstly, the eastern and western coasts of the USA are protected by the vast Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Atlantic ocean is also the reason why Japan wasnt able to cause any damage to USA in world war 2,
Secondly Unlike China which has so many neighbors so it has to protect itself from all of these sides, the USA has only two neighbors Canada and Mexico, both with closer ties and smaller militaries.
