As far as robotics, public transports and electronics goes, it's impossible to think anyone else is above Japan. But most cutting-edge technologies are still developped in the U.S., especially with everything related to weapons, industrial machinery or space exploration. It's just that they have been slowing down lately. China might catch up eventually but they certainly haven't yet, not even close. It's definitly between Japan and the U.S. for me.

I think that you're ignoring the privatized sector of US technology. At this point, Google and company are easily able to fund and innovate themselves.

I have always wondered why other countries don't have technology that japan has had for over a decade. Like the toilets, vending machines, etc. I am half japanese half british and I can rly tell the difference in tech. Other countries are missing out!
