1. Static typing and good OOP architecture makes Java much better at maintaining a large project over a long time with different developers
2. Java programs run much faster, first because of compile time optimisations and vastly better multithreading
3. There are some factual errors in your statements e.g. when you say setting up a Java environment is harder because of paths and versions... they are nowhere near the pitfalls of Python 2 vs 3 pip3...

Good information and conclusions but the final selection is a bit wrong. as you said, most of the tools are written in Java, so, that fact is enough for Data Engineers who are the infrastructure guys for Data Scientists to care more about Java, I'm a Data Engineer so I can honestly tell you that you need to focus 70% on Java and 30 on Python especially if you want to debug things, but for automation and programming stuff it is totally the opposite.

I'm really wondering why performance wasn't a thing to look on here? I mean Java has here some noticeable advantages (concurrency, binary code instead of byte code).. What I really want to know, if the common libraries used in, in particular, ML e.g. SciKit are C-Libaries to handle those issues..? Didn't found an answer in this regards. Maybe you've got an answer to this Thomas!

Hey thanks for the nice comparison.. I have a question that I am not getting a clear answer on the web. What about Java's performance for floating points arithmetic operations. You know in many applications you might need precision up to many decimal places. In that case, would it be advisable to use Java or Python? Thanks in advance.

python has more simple language and is better for programming
