I have had two sets of dentures made on the NHS. They were both so bad and uncomfortable that I am unable to use them at all. So having had them because an unpitted olive in a restaurant snapped off one of my front lower ones, I have for years simply gone without. So I have gone from a confident male who had no issue dating to a virtual recluse. It has affected everything, from publicly performing, eating and having a sex life. I cannot afford professional treatment. So I feel totally let down.

Something else you don't mention about the NHS is the waiting. The guys who do the NHS work also do private work, so they see a limited number of NHS patients. Which means waiting months for appointments.

After years of inadequate dental treatment from the NHS I decided a month ago to go private, and I'm glad I did. It's going to cost a lot, but my confidence soared after I attended my first 45-minute dental inspection. 45 minutes! At the NHS dentist a bi-annual check-up barely took 5 minutes! And with the private dentist there is no language barrier. The NHS typically employs dentists and dental nurses who, sadly, have poor, even very poor English. It is vitally important to understand what your dentist is trying to tell you.

Cheaper to fly out to India for £260 return and get top class most expensive dentures for about £500 (compared to the £2400 I was just quoted to a full set)

Thank you for your excellent video. It was to-the-point and had none of the typical 'YouTube waffle'.

I dream of having my smile back. I fell ill in early 2018, resulting in high-dose of steroids since then. This has taken its toll on my teeth and I now have around 11 broken teeth, 6 front teeth, 5 bottom teeth. I was thankful for the mandatory face masks as they covered my teeth. Always had a great set of teeth before falling ill (I was a volunteer medic that contracted a virus resulting in sepsis and other complications that ultimately caused reactive arthritis at the age of 46) Currently there is around a 4+ year waiting list to see an NHS dentist here in Cornwall. I was with a local dental surgery but missed an appointment so I was struck off their list. I explained why I missed the appointment, the reason being that I was rushed into hospital and came around in the resus dept following being shocked but they didn't seem to care and had no intention of adding me back to their patient list. So here I am, waiting to win the lottery or something. My smile is so embarrassing, I have to chew my food with one upper and one lower tooth as it's too uncomfortable to eat anywhere else in my mouth. I've also noticed that my speech and pronunciation of words have changed, I sound like I have a lisp, and my S's, F's and words with Th sound nothing like they used to. Maybe one day I'll be able to see a dentist who'll be able to fix my teeth, until then I will stay the way I am. It's reassuring to know that the NHS dentures will be good, my fingers are crossed that one day I'll find out first-hand.

Thank you so much for this video, incredibly reassuring.

Interesting video I had just an upper plate September 21 cost 250 NHS. 8 or may have been 10 visits to my dentist, to get the impressions right, been happy with the denture but unfortunately a few days ago two teeth snapped off the plate, yesterday back to my dentist to sort it. I asked that very question would this cost more if i had paid private and would they be stronger the reply 900 to 950. and the dentist said there would be metal in the plate. It will be interesting to see how good after this repair

Good idea. But wait what happens if something goes wrong, is it back to Poland, India or wherever? Or do you pop into your regular dentist and say I got these in Poland will you fix them for me?

I am so glad I went to a private dentist to get my dentures. I saw my husband's dentures and wondered how on earth anyone can cope with such thick plastic in their mouths! Mine are thin, light, strong, look like my own teeth and fit perfectly. His never fitted properly and looked like false teeth which were all the same. The canine teeth weren't any different than the others. If I need any more (I have a partial top set) I will find out the cost and save up. No way will I have NHS dentures! They are awful.

£1000 for two teeth at the front from the private dentist. They get the money the dental technician gets a pittance for the job.

Me again, round two, my next top of dentures, She put to much impression stuff in i slightly jumped out of the chair and my partner told me people could here me gagging in the waiting room. The day came to try them in. OMG, the back teeth was to long so i could not shut my mouth or talk. And the front teeth was to small (no top lip). And not the nicest person to confront. So off i went devastated yet again. Cannot find another NHS taking new clients on. And private prices are herrendous . Even tried to make my own. Around 6yrs on. I give up.

I’m having to get a partial lower denture - I’m trying to find a video to see how they fit... I’m missing one lower tooth either side in mid-back. The gap on the right is fairly big so I get sore gum when I chew food. It’s been like that for about 4 years. But now the tooth next to the larger gap on the right is going to need pulling eventually-it’s okay at the moment, but it won’t last forever. When my Dentist suggested pulling it I said I didn’t want to make the gap even bigger because it gets tender. That’s when she suggested a partial denture. We’ve decided to take the mould & create the denture for just the one gap each side, and in time when the tooth needs pulling the denture will be sent off and that space added in. But I’m not sure what a lower denture looks like? How they fit? It’s an NHS denture I’m getting.

What if your dentist is incompetent? I have nhs partial dentures and he had to flatten all the back teeth because he's a dimwit who can't take proper imprints. He is also a private dentist. So there wouldn't be any difference for me, only that I pay through my non-teeth for him to be a dimwit.

True but can I find an NHS dentist? Not one. All NHS dentists refuse to see any NHS patients but will see those paying privately. So, how is this so if NHS and Private are supposed to be the same?
