What to feed baby chicks | Homemade chick starter

You DON’T need to buy chick starter! Hatching and raising chicks doesn’t have to cost a fortune. I feel like store bought chick starter is a waste of money. As long as you have a good quality chicken food, you can then simply blend some up into fine sand-like texture to feed your freshly hatched chicks 🐥.
The scratch I’m using in this video is 8% protein.
This is not enough protein , newly hatched chicks ages 0-10 weeks should be fed chick starter with 10%-20% protein. I use this 8% feed because I supplement my chicks almost daily with kitchen scraps like cooked leftover chicken & eggs. My kids often dig up earthworms to feed them as well. So therefore, I know my chicks are eating enough protein. If you don’t supplement like me, just use a Fred with higher protein content. Simple.

Save money on chick starter and make your own! In the past, I’ve also added oatmeal, baby cereal and sunflower seeds to this mix. Try this and let me know how it works out for you 🐥

They should have a higher protein then 8% . Starter feed is 18% . Help quick healthy growth

I’m not trying to be that commenter but agree with the black swan comment . Scratch grain is a snack it isn’t enough protein for adult egg layers, let alone and really not enough for babies that need that extra protein for growth

IT SAYS 8% PROTEIN THATS NOT EVEN NEAR ENOUGH YOU GOTTA GIVE CHICKS AT LEAST 18-19%

8% Protein is too less it should be 16% minimum. Hence the small size of your chicken.

Dude it’s only 8%

I feed my chicks 18%-20%

They need that to grow.
And they stay on that cause it’s good for layers but I add calcium later for them

coziii.
