It is la folle giornata – the wedding day of Figaro and Susanna, both in the service of the high-ranking Spanish diplomat il Conte di Almaviva. Though in dire straits as a result of public allegations of misuse of power and sexual intimidation, the count is still determined to make a conquest of the bride-to be. It is of all times and yet no longer of this time. Figaro and the restless adolescent Cherubino do everything possible to thwart his plans, but eventually it is Susanna and the humiliated Contessa who disentangle the web of intrigue by cleverly challenging this excess of toxic masculinity.
This production is part of our 'Trilogia Mozart Da Ponte'. La Monnaie takes up the challenge to stage the three operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte together in the form of a trilogy. While each of these masterpieces can be viewed independently of the others, the directors Clarac-Delœuil - le lab and conductor Antonello Manacorda have reimagined 'Le nozze di Figaro', 'Così fan tutte' and 'Don Giovanni' jointly as one single work. A human comedy in three parts, presenting a large number of interlinked characters and plots.
