If I've done nothing else in my life, at least I've learned to understand why this is the greatest music ever written.

...the density of quality is so extraordinary that it is unimaginable to have something only similar today. This includes the conductor.
Maestro Kleiber & Co. they all have met in heaven for eternal marriage of Figaro....

Two of my favorite Figaro recordings; this one and Solti with Ramey, Popp, von Stade, Te Kanawa, Allen etc!
Thank you! I could listen to this all day, everyday!

Gorgeous, one of the best recordings ever of the Nozze di Figaro, the elder Kleiber and a formidable cast.

According to an article published in Gramaphone magazine in 2011, this performance is one of the best of all Figaro performances. It's nice that it has been uploaded and we can enjoy it. I would credit the author of the article but things published online are very sloppy when it comes to things like date of publication or author name. The pace and balance of this performance so far is just wonderful.

This was the first complete FIGARO recording I heard when I began listening to opera recordings. Also my high school choir director had those in his class that were interested to attend the FIGARO production from the MET opera national touring company which unfortunately was terminated shortly thereafter. This was the second opera I had seen & I loved it immediately & soon after I heard the recording presented here. The only artist I was not particularly fond of even then was the Viennese favorite Alfred Poell (where was George London) who sang the count but I became a fan straight away of Siepi who I eventually preferred to Pinza in this role. Pinza was eminently musical for being an untrained musician unable to read music yet not quite on the same level as Siepi who was better trained as a musician. Pinza at 48 still had many fine years of singing ahead of him but roles like Figaro did not ideally suit him by this time, IMO. Had he sung Figaro when he was Siepi‘s age in this recording (32) it might have been otherwise. Pinza‘s special charisma in roles like Figaro & Don Giovanni served him well & Siepi had this quality as well but the latter was at his best in these 2 Mozart roles & then for the next 20 years. I do feel that Pinza‘s instrument & special timbre were even slightly more beautiful in certain Verdi roles than Siepi’s but both of their unique basso cantante voices have not I feel yet been surpassed, IMO. Hearing this performance again I was pleasantly surprised by Corena who, IMO, never sounded more sonorous than is heard here. Icing on the cake is having Della Casa‘s Countess on this recording as well.
