Γκιώνα, Πυραμίδα Γκιώνας, Μνήματα, Βαθειά Λάκκα, Aνάβαση, 2510μ. - Mount Giona, Peak Pyramid, Hike

Η Γκιώνα είναι το υψηλότερο βουνό της Στερεάς Ελλάδας, ανάμεσα από τον Παρνασσό, τα Βαρδούσια και την Οίτη. Με υψηλότερη κορυφή την Πυραμίδα στα 2.510 μέτρα, η Γκιώνα είναι το υψηλότερο βουνό νότια του Ολύμπου και το πέμπτο συνολικά στην Ελλάδα. Στην αρχαιότητα ήταν γνωστή ως Ασέληνον όρος.

Σύμφωνα με τη μυθολογία, η Σελήνη πήγαινε να συναντήσει στις πλαγιές της Γκιώνας τον Ενδυμίωνα, γιο της Πύρρας και του Δευκαλίωνα, αφήνοντας τον κόσμο χωρίς φεγγάρι. Ετσι πήρε το όνομά του το Ασέληνον Ορος το ψηλότερο βουνό της Ρούμελης, που ανακαλύπτουμε πεζοπορώντας.

Giona is the highest mountain in Central Greece, between Parnassos, Vardousia, and Oiti. With the highest peak the Pyramid at 2,510 meters, Giona is the highest mountain south of Olympus and the fifth overall in Greece. In ancient times it was known as Mount with no moon.

According to mythology, the Moon met Endymion, son of Pyrras and Deucalion, on the slopes of Giona, leaving the world without a moon. This is how Mount with no moon, the highest mountain of Roumeli, which we discover while hiking, got its name.
