"Jaqen somehow forgot he is a faceless man" - D&D

My favorite theory is that Arya’s teacher Syrio was a Faceless Man, was captured by Trant and while he was in the cells changed to Jaqen

Hiring a faceless man to kill Ned doesn't make sense, financially and logistically. Littlefinger even says that hiring one of them to kill a simple merchant would cost as much as an entire army of sellswords. So why pay so much when Littlefinger could easily pay a random assassin/merc to do it, or better yet: whisper into Joffrey's ears that if he executed Ned, he would appear powerful to the rest of the kingdom.

arya should have ordered him to kill cercei

Yeah I do rememebr small council was discussin the idea to hire faceless men to kill Dany, but Petyr didn't like that, because with that money they could hire an army

Petyr could have grabbed anyone to do this task for him, exactly as he did with Slynt.

I always figured he either allowed himself to be captured or was captured by accident.

But if he was captured intentionally, there is a target that makes more sense, Robert. He was the most important person in the castle and he was actively trying to kill Dany, so he would have been an ideal target for one of the conspirators trying to bring Dany to power while trying to circumvent Varys' plan. Jaqen infiltrates the castle by getting arrested, he uses the time to learn the tunnels, but robert ends up getting killed by the boar and now he has no job and allows himself to be "sent to the wall" knowing he can escape later without notice.

Little finger hatred for the starks for taking away his girlfriend cat is quite funny if he could he would nuke Ned just to be with her 😅

This is foolish. A faceless assassin costs an incredible amount of gold. Baelish, even if he could afford it, would not spend it on killing a guy bound for the wall. He'd pay a guy at the wall to do it for a penny.

Want a cooler theory? It was Little Finger who told Brandon Stark (ned's older bro) that Lyanna was captured by Rhaegar. Causing him to storm down to KL and die along with his father. Why would LF do this? Because Brandon almost killed him in a duel for Catelyn. Chaos is a ladder.

He probably got himself arrested for the free ride north, where he either had business or was seeking business.

Littlefinger is way to pragmatic.. had Ned taken Renly‘s offer and Littlefingers meaning („bribe me“), he would have easily swayed the latter and won the Game of Thrones..for now..

Jaqen is on an assignment to obtain a key from the citadel to uncover the secrets on how to kill a dragon. This is hinted in the books.

My favorite theory is that J’Aqen is Rhaegar. The blonde streak always threw me off. The description of Rhaegar being so gentle, kind, being generous to children & having an affinity for Stark girls would be on par.

But in the books, they emphasize that he was obsessed with prophecies and the wacky mystical elements of the realm. The details from the battle in which he was killed are also kinda messy and indicative of deception. I know a ton of you can drop knowledge here to disprove it, but wouldn’t this be the most fun twist?

A valiant & perfectly executed escape from the war that shifted history and shapes our understanding of the realm…He knows his son is out there with House Stark… he becomes an elite assassin with a permanent fool-proof disguise, being a faceless man… essentially trains a Stark girl to go home & contribute to fulfilling the prophecy, ending the long night.

I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts or evidence to disprove it, because I can’t help but think about it whenever his character comes up in my rewatches & YouTube algorithm 😂

I always wondered how he ended up there but I assumed it was so he could influence Arya but then how could he have known she’d be with the people heading to the wall never mind that Ned’s execution was a last minute thing in itself so couldn’t have been planned

I think we can all definetly agree he didn't get in that cell without wanting to be there. He's a master magical shapeshifting assassin, a small cell on the back of a wagon would be childs play for most halfway skilled thieves let alone a Faceless Man. He didn't need Arya's help to get out either. He couldn't have known Arya would be there so him going there to influence her is out, it makes no sense for Baelish to pay a Faceless Man to kill a starving wounded man in the pitch black, he could've payed anyone to do that. So I suppose maybe we'll get an answer in one of the later books, but I'd say as of now this doesn't have an answer yet.

I always figured that the Faceless Men used intense wars to pick out potential new recruits, but focused on those with the qualities that separate normal people from true assassins. Sure, they have the House of Black and White, so aspirants know where to go, but a Faceless Man with no lives to take probably has their eyes and ears open for new talent.

My theory is George just made a mistake writing it the way he did and never wrote out a reason why he was there. With how big the story is there bound to be a plot contrivance here and there.

I always thought Ned hired Jaqen to protect Arya, which fits either if Syrio is a faceless man or if Syrio dies but Jaqen is the backup shadowing Syrio and fulfills the contract. It makes sense for why Jaqen later adopts an identity as a Lannister soldier, without ever approaching Tywin for a contract or about any other related contracts.

Being from the Free City of Braavos and that there is another character from there, Syrio Forel, I was thinking that perhaps Syrio was owed names by Jaqen so he brought Jaqen to King's Landing to protect Syrio's patron, Ned and Arya. He was there with Arya and directed her to come to Braavos.

What I find almost interesting is the idea of him actually making it to the wall. Imagine a faceless man in the night’s watch
