DELEGATION FOR NURSES
Показать описание
Delegation is an essential nursing skill that alleviates the workload that the present-day nurse is given daily. Most nurses are authorized to delegate to another healthcare professional, as governed by the nurse’s state nurse practice acts. (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2021). As with any nursing skill, it is governed by guidelines that are put in place as safeguards to protect the nurse, the delegatee, and the client. The safeguards are encapsulated within the Five Rights of Delegation. The first right is the right task. This right ensure that the right task is delegated to the party. Next, right circumstances highlight the need for the nurse to assess the client to ensure that the client is stable and will have a predictable outcome (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2021). Third, the right person right ensures that the nurse is delegating a task to a healthcare professional that has had previous training with the task being delegated (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2021). Fourth, the nurse must ensure that the proper supervision will be given throughout the task, and the nurse is able to evaluate the outcome of the task after completion (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2021). Last, the nurse must be able to provide the right direction and communication to the delegatee. The directions given must be clear and precise and the delegate must be directed to inform the nurse when the task is complete (National Center for Biotechnology Information, 2021).
