Thanks Kate. Bumped into your podcasts a while ago and I appreciate your effort to bring your expertise into public. Great advice. In Finland the difference between assisting nurse is not that big anymore because AN's job description is expanded. Nowadays the main difference is that AN's don't take part in IV's. This also makes the team spirit better and partly helps to get rid of the traditional hierarchical structure. There still might be exceptions depending on the unit / field of expertise that emphasize AN's more traditional working role.

I personally do like to ask “Are you able to do this for me?” Because maybe they are also doing something important, etc. but I will tell someone if it comes down to it. I was a CNA in the same facility where I’m an LPN and it can be really awkward to tell people I used to have as a hall partner what I need them to do. But they always know if there’s something I can help them with and I’m not overly busy that they can ask me bc we have the same goal, which is to help the pt. In my RN clinical I have a hard time asking the techs to help me because I can feel that they think I’m a burden so I do a lot myself. I feel like being a CNA helped me to be super independent because a lot of nurses just plain won’t help CNAs.

I like the personality of the show ladies. Good job! I'm a new grad but am a social worker. I've observed over the years and you're speaking facts. I always say to myself, i'm going to be better than that
