Gangster Sonny is the big man in Calogero's Bronx neighborhood. A shooting witnessed by Calogero is the starting point of a lasting bond between the gangster and the small boy. Father (bus driver Lorenzo), however, disap- proves. Calogero grows up under the wings of both men, torn between his own natural honesty and his fascination with Sonny. C's neighborhood cronies get involved in theft, use of guns, racial fights. When C meets girl, things don't become easier. C's leap to manhood is marked by tragedy, but also by his recognition of the many faces of love.

Honestly I feel more bad for the shooter than Sonny. He spent years as a kid carrying this hated fir Sonny and wanting revenge. Now he finally had us knowing that’s it’s essentially a suicide mission. Sonny not only murdered his father but basically ruined his life

In this moment C finally realized the lesson his father tried to teach him at the beginning.

Crazy how he was the witness to Sonny shooting the father years earlier and then the witness to the son shooting Sonny years later. This movie was easily one of the more well-written, almost perfect films.

C was the only person, I think, who truly cared for Sonny Sonny knew it, and the feeling was mutual.

This is one of the best scenes in the film. It shows no matter how powerful you are, all it takes is one bullet to the head to take you down. Sonny realises his power over people is nothing more than an image. That's why it's so easy to break and why he lives his life in fear.

Sonny saves one kid's life but ruined another kid's life many years ago and now that kid is here like a consequence. What's amazing about Sonny is that he understands who he is and what he is in life so I'm certain that he would died without regrets.

The guy that killed sonny was the son of the man that sonny killed when C was a child. He was getting revenge for his father's death. Though he should have realized going into that bar it was a possible suicide mission.

Did anybody else notice that C and the shooter lowkey looked like each other. Kind of mirrored each other in that sequence? C is smile and the shooter is stone cold.

Piecing everything together now is really crazy. In the same day, C picks up Sonny's car (which we later find out had a bomb rigged to the engine). Bomb doesn't go off, C lives goes on date with Jane, but is asked to leave (again bomb doesn't go off C lives). Later he drops off the car, Sonny confronts him revealing the bomb information. C then catches up with his friends; but before doing something stupid Sonny saves his life without knowing it, as the car would later catch fire and blow. C has now cheated death 3 times. C goes to thank Sonny but ultimately sees him die. A person would shoot Sonny with a gun, the same night as a failed bombing attempt. Meaning he most likely wanted to kill Sonny without someone knowing it was him, but instead has to resort to plan B. Confronting Sonny in the same manner, as Sonny did long ago to the gunman's father. Both murder's filmed from C's perspective to show how actions have consequences and can comeback full circle. Now its C losing his father or at least his father figure like the gunman.

MOVIE FACT! The guy who shot Sonny auditioned for the part of “C”. It was down to him (Philip) and (Lillo). They ended up choosing Lillo. But I like how they gave him a small but very important part of the film.

Fun Fact - the shooter was a front runner for the role of C, it was between him and Lillo who ended up getting the part. Lillo talks about him in interviews and says they are good friends to this day. Guys name is Philip Garbarino.

honestly Sonny was a complicated character, I neither liked nor disliked him but this scene does prove that even with all the power in the world, it can always come crashing down on you.

I hate it when Sonny dies he was a bad guy but to C he was a good character sometimes when you have that personality as a bad person someone really changes your lifestyle
