We were so caught up in seeing if we could, that we never considered if we should.

Microsoft's going to see this and start salivating. Windows 13 is going to require an internet connection and a Microsoft account to boot, require OneDrive to store files, and be a yearly subscription.

You helped me pull the trigger to try using Linux full time. Nearly 6 months in, and I haven't looked back towards using Windows. Thanks a lot.

$350 for a Chromebook is an absolute scam in everything.
Not only you get an inferior hardware for the price of a not that old used Thinkpad, but it also requires constant internet connection to be usable.

LUKS does not decrypt all the files on the file system when you enter the password. What LUKS is doing is creating a virtual mapper that intercepts read and write requests to the storage device and either encrypts or decrypts the data in memory. This mapper is never stored on the storage device. It only exists in memory which is why the hard drive is able to stay encrypted even if you yank out the power cable.

He's right. Read the eula or the agreement thing and they reserve the right to see all your data.

2 things popped into my mind instantly:
First, as you said: that's just basically a terminal.
But second, and most important: don't encourage companies to make booting and running a computer into a service. They'd love to do that.

I replaced most of my Google Drive use with Syncthing, it's awesome, runs on my devices and files are just there and synced without doing anything. I sync my phone to backup to external drive, and sync my main pc to my 3d printer.

Once it's set up it's just seamless, i take a pic or vid on my phone and a few seconds later look in my phone pics folder on my desktop and it's there in the local folder ready to edit or whatever. Same with Gcode, i save locally on my desktop with Cura and my Gcode folder is mirrored on my printer out in the shop by the tile i walk out there. I used to do all that with extra steps with GD now i pretty much never use it, unless i want to share with someone else using it. But 99.9% of my use of it was sending Gcode to my printer.

FR, Syncthing FTW!

Booting Arch from Google drive and booting any challengers in the Eastern Conference to the curb, Jayson Tatum can do it all! Congrats on the Finals win Jayson.

The same I did with Azure Blob. When more intensive I/O happens and network lagging file system quickly is getting corrupted. Probably the same will happen with Archlinux for RW filesystem. For POC live to download ramfs of course it will work with anything like this.
